Save the Term, “Negro”… REALLY???

I read a commentary recently lamenting the elimination of the designation of  the term, “Negro” for American born Africans, now commonly referred to as “African Americans,” from the U.S. Census form. I just shook my head, said “Good-bye, Negro and turned the page. I didn’t pay much attention to it Then one of my more intellectually provocative Twitter followers, a very high profile personality that likes to engage people, tweeted the article and queried should we save “Negro”? Okay…now I’m thinking, “Should I comment on this?” After all, I’ve recently retired from dealing with Negroes (and its more vile derivative—Nig[you … Continue reading

Black Comedians, Dresses and Kevin Hart on SNL: Maybe Dave Chappelle Was On To Something…

The latest episode in the perpetual discussion about black male emasculation occurred this past week when the latest rising star in comedy (not just black comedy), Kevin Hart, hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL). Kevin Hart’s career is peaking right now. After two successful movies in the past couple years and a sold-out nationwide tour, Kevin Hart is hitting on all cylinders. The Christopher Dorner Episode May Be Over-But The Questions He Raised Remain

One of the most tragic and horrifying episodes in the recent history of our city, state and nation has come to an end…or has it? The national manhunt for ex-LAPD officer, Christopher Dorner, came to an end in a fiery shootout on Big Bear Mountain. There was nothing pretty about this at all. It started ugly and ended uglier. Obviously, it started long before the first shot was fired or the “manifesto” was published. It will not end with the last shot and Dorner’s death. Dorner reopened a whole can of worms. The wounds are deep and scars are fresh. … Continue reading

The Super Bowl “Blackout” Nobody Is Talking About

Much ado is being made about a thirty-four minute blackout during what was, at the time, a blowout, in the nation’s most viewed annual sporting event, the Super Bowl. They are still trying to figure out what caused it. The most obvious suspect was, of course, Beyonce. Seems like she can’t catch a break, after putting on a high powered, high energy, Destiny Child reunion halftime show that fried our ends—to no end. You can’t blame her for everything…she probably had a little incentive after the Inauguration thing. So she probably cracked the voltage up a few notches. She’s a … Continue reading
